When we consider our highest desires for ourselves, we often think about the time involved in reaching these desires. Questions like "how long will it take to get there?", "what exactly do I have to learn?". It can be frustrating to know just how much needs to be done when there's not really a sure fire way to get there faster without being inauthentic.
BUT what if I told you there is a way that you can experience your desires faster, and in an authentic way. It won't be overnight, but it's faster than you otherwise would experience if you didn't do anything at all.
What is this magical strategy I'm speaking about? It's the strategy of focusing on your wellbeing.
Have you noticed how the health & wellness industries and sectors of life have made their way to the top of our minds, our feeds, and even our lifestyle choices in the past 5 or so years? And at the same time, we're seeing entrepreneurs, different ways of work/life balance, and people seeing massive amounts of success from the comfort of their own home pop up left and right.
Do you believe these two trends are associated with each other? Because I do. I think that our generation of folks who are in the working class have faced a huge shift in understanding what's important to them, and what's worth taking a risk for. For me, work/life balance has been a priority of mine since 2020, and I've experienced the consequences first hand of what it means to put your heart first, in that respect. It's not an easy route. But to me, it is 100% worth while if I get to live my dream life.
I've noticed in my own life that when I pay attention to the nuances, the little things, much bigger shifts in my perspective begin to show themselves. I've matched these nuances to major areas of life that we all share collectively. These areas of life, when focused on and catered to, can be major pillars of change and below I'll share my two cents, or my experience on each.
Physical wellbeing (consistently exercising) allows us to stimulate the body and mind all at once, and this in it's simplest form provides us with clarity in the mind, and detoxification in the body. Notice how both of these effects are mimicking the action of minimizing distraction, simplifying, and providing focus where there once was cloudiness? This is the point, and for a lot of people, this is the unconscious reason they engage in physical activity. Because it provides a shift into deeper clarity, deeper mind body connection, and a more awakened spirit. My journey with physical fitness and wellbeing has been quite significant in my life- in 2010/2011, I lost about 60 pounds through consistent, steady exercise, and it was one of those things that I just woke up one day and decided to do. There is no coincidence that during that time, there was a lot of significant change taking place in my life as well, and in hindsight, I was experiencing a desire for deeper clarity in my purpose.
Spiritual wellbeing (consistently meditating, or incorporating a mindful practice) allows us to experience a moment for ourselves that we otherwise wouldn't give ourselves in the same capacity. To meditate consistently means that we are giving our mind and body a time to connect with one another, similar to strength training at the gym but for the body and mind connection. You may notice that spiritual wellbeing and physical wellbeing are similar in this way in which they drive connection, and I would classify these two areas of wellbeing as the most 'yang' in our efforts- meaning we are taking action (moving our body, or meditating) to reap the results. When we meditate or incorporate a mindful practice, the 'goal' outcome may be obvious but the benefits make this practice highly valuable overtime. There is a form of strength that comes from meditating and mindful practices and all of this strength gives our being, our soul, endurance, patience, presence, and intuitive connection. Nuanced bodily responses to a thought that passes our minds during meditation can inform us of what a certain emotion, person, thought, concept, idea makes us truly feel, and we can then learn to trust what we 'feel' in more situations in life on a more ready basis.
Mental wellbeing (consistently attending to the status of the mind/emotions and how effects our energy) allows us to draw awareness to the dominant energy/frequency we live within, and from this noticing, also allows us to make informed decisions on what will work best for us in every given scenario. Wellness of the mind is much more "yin" than say tending to our spiritual and physical wellbeing. It's about absorbing, noticing and observing our natural responses to life and giving ourselves the love and care we need based on the status, that will best serve us in what we want, and what we need. When we tend to our mental wellbeing, we're then called to be flexible and adaptable to what we feel, and also be gracious with ourselves about how we go about tending to ourselves. This is probably the most challenging piece, especially if we don't understand the root cause of our current energy/frequency. But it is so important to stay in the state of observation if we feel out of balance. Truly learning how to observe our thoughts from an objective point of view will not only strengthen your ability to separate your emotions from logic, but it will allow you to really understand what you need, what your circumstances need, and how to go about approaching them with the best mindset possible.
