Welcome back to the blog, friends!
We are heading into 2024, and I can't help but feel the significant shift of energy this year more than most. The new year starts on a Monday and for some reason that alone makes this year feel exuberant and all around exciting for getting things initiated in terms of business. Can you feel the energy of newness?
As much as I'm not usually one to move with societies agenda, I have always found a profound meaning in endings and beginnings (you know, the whole season thing). As much as the New Year is based on a man-made calendar system, I think there could have been an intuitive decision made when it came to determining when the new year begins and the current year ends.
Some of you know that I'm well-versed in astrology as it accompanies my seasonal wellness and herbalism studies, and I can say that this time does not signify the astrological new year, although we are getting close. The Winter Solstice welcomes back the light and is actually the end of our 'darkness' here in the northern hemisphere (although it seems like it's just beginning). The interesting part about the new year holiday is that it comes at the beginning of winter, and by the time the astrological new year comes around (which is when the sun leaves the constellation of Pisces and enters Aries around March 21st), we are already about a quarter way through the year. I see significance in both 'new years', and the reason I lean towards this one for vision boarding is because I feel it is the most conducive time for acknowledging our ideals, and replenishing that vision all winter for an electrifying spring, and beautiful summer reality.
So, what is vision boarding?! Let me explain if you don't already know. A vision board is a collection of imagery (either in physical form or digital form) that represents our goals, our aspirations, and what we want our life to look like, feel like, and be like. I've personally been creating vision boards for a few years and have experienced some pretty.... profound realities come into my life. There is not an insane amount of intent/energy you need to put behind your daily process once you've created your vision board, but the intention should be there at the time you create it. The vision board itself should act as a reminder of your intentions.
I'm definitely the kind of person that wants to know the results before even attempting anything- I have a show me the proof mentality so to speak. So here are a few things that I have manifested into my life from simply having a strong intention whilst creating a vision board, followed by simply looking, noticing, and meditating on the visuals everyday (or close to everyday) as a part of my routine for the next year.
A job and career path that felt impossible at the time to break into from what I was doing. The opportunity came from a close connection, and I honestly didn't think what I wanted was out there- never mind for me. It all was received not even a year after creating the vision board
A place I wanted to travel to and placed visuals of on my vision board ended up being the destination of my sisters first ever led retreat. The trip ended up being gifted to me and was with the same people I intended to travel to this country with in the first place.
The energy of the kind of relationship I set an intention for manifested over the course of a few years. Elements of this relationship also coincided with other visuals I had on the vision board, and ultimately led me to meeting my soulmate.
Now for the fun part- the how to! When it comes to personal life and business, I have always considered them one in the same. As a business owner, it's hard to not associate business aspirations and personal aspirations together- especially when your intention is to create a lifestyle that supports both equally and in a complementary way. SO, if you are hoping to create a vision board for your business alone- that is great! But if you find that a personal vision board supports your business goals as well- this works too! Figure out what your focus will be here and then we can get started on the process below.
The first step I always take when creating a vision board is goal / intention setting. This is where you can write out your goals associated with your physical health, spiritual health, mental health, or you can divvy them out in another way that makes the most sense to you like- health, relationships, career, etc. I would first come up with the subjects of your goals (whether it's your business, specific sector of life, aspect of life as listed above) then start writing down in specific detail what you want each of these things to look like, feel like, be like. If you feel inclined, you can make your goals SMART goals by making sure your goal is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-based.
The next step is to find the visuals that invoke exciting, happy, passionate, genuine emotion and are directly associated with your written goal. This is the fun part. I recommend scoping out these visuals on Pinterest first, then look to Google, and Canva. On Pinterest, you can create a new "board" and call it vision board and pin all of the visuals you find to this board. This will be super easy to access when it comes to printing/designing your finalized board.
Once you have found beautiful imagery that feels personal to your goals and aspirations, it's time to organize them in physical or digital form!
If you want to create a physical vision board, I recommend creating a Canva file that is 8.5" x 11" (regular paper size) and organizing your imagery within these bounds so that you can print each page easily. Create as many pages as you want or that will be necessary to hold all of your imagery in the size/aspect ratio you'd like them to be. You can get even more creative with this after printing and cut each image out individually to then glue onto your board. This brings us to the next step for a physical vision board which is to get a bigger piece of poster board to hold all of your imagery! This can be whatever shape or size board, as long as everything can fit together on it and no visual get's overlooked. Glue your 8.5" x 11" pages or individually cut imagery to the bigger board.
If you want to create a digital vision board that could act as your desktop wallpaper or simply sit as a digital file on your desktop, create a Canva file to be the digital aspect ratio of your choosing (desktop sizes can range). Compile all of your imagery in a way that makes sense to you and feels best for you on your canvas. Once you're done, simply save it to your downloads (higher resolution the better) and set it as your wallpaper, or keep it as a file on your desktop.
Once you are done with creating your vision board, it is time to set your intention. This will be your ritual for setting the intention for each goal and each aspiration for each image. This is the process of infusing your vision board imagery with the soul connection you have to your intention associated with each visual. This process can take as short or as long as you want it to be, but make sure that you do take the time to meditate on each goal and each image associated to the point of feeling it, seeing it, and experiencing that reality in your minds eye. This is where the magic happens!
Now that your vision board is infused with the visions and realities you have meditated on and put energy towards- it's time to incorporate your vision board practice into your daily routine. Don't get too caught up in worrying about how often you meditate everyday with your vision board- it's not about quantity, it's about quality. If you give yourself even 5 minutes everyday to simply focus on your vision board by recalling the intention, sitting with it, and then leaving it be, that can be enough. It is all dependent on the quality of your focus and your attachment to the outcomes- which should feel healthy. If you feel stress when thinking about your goals associated with your vision board, don't be surprised if you feel stress when that experience makes its way into your reality. What you feel will impact your manifestation- so make sure you feel good, healthy, secure in your attachment to these outcomes, no force, just gentle, focused intention.
Well folks, this is exactly how to create the ultimate vision board for yourself and your business in the new year! Vision boards hold a very special place in my heart because they've opened the door to life-changing realities that I am forever grateful for. It is the closest thing to magic in my opinion to give yourself the opportunity to collaborate with the universe in providing a life that is in total alignment with you and what you want. No goal goes unnoticed or without effort put towards it, and that is a beautiful thing.
I hope you all have a magnificent start to 2024, and I will talk to you all mid-month!
