The Simplest Solopreneur Time-Management Organization Strategy

ree

Okay, my beginner business owners, and my established solopreneurs who feel like they could use some TLC in the time management organization sector of their life/business. This one is for you.

Do you ever feel like you just want this ONE simple strategy to getting all of your sh*t done, and it's almost like NO ONE is willing to break it down into extremely doable, easy steps? Don't get me wrong, I get it. It's not exactly easy to break down exactly what you should be doing especially when you're in the middle of growing as a business owner yourself!

As much as I understand, I still think it's worth meeting you where you're at in your journey because there's truly nothing more valuable than being understood in the exact chapter of life and business that you're in.

So today I am going to attempt to give you the SIMPLEST time management organization strategy for any solopreneur to start, maintain, and succeed in their business. These tips are going to be super broad, but they are meant to be broad so that YOU have the ability to customize and get more specific with your direction.

Let's dive right into it.

First things first, start utilizing a calendar

If you guys have been with me since the beginning, you know I wouldn't be where I am today without Google Calendar. Giving yourself the opportunity to time block what you need to get done is crucial to actually getting things moving and rolling in your business. You will need to come up with your priorities before you time-block (which we will get into next), but first, start by time-blocking your commitments. The non-flexible hours in your day that your attention is needed elswhere. This is going to give you the best idea of how much free-time you actually have.

#2 Is to define your priorities

Okay so this can get complex very easily, but let's start with the basics. How your business makes money is your #1 priority, always. Doesn't matter what you do for a business. This is the foundation of keeping your business alive, so it should always have energy going into these efforts; whether that's product creation, service curation and refining, offering preparation, and even marketing efforts to some extent. We also need to consider the more psychological side of HOW when it comes to you making money in your business. This is where marketing will come in.

So, in this step, outline the most important aspects of your business (how you make money always being number 1) from most important to least important. For the sake of making this easier, branding, social media collaborations (unless this is one of the major ways you make money), and elements of business that aren't directly related to making you money should be toward the bottom of the list. To give you an idea, here is what mine looks like:

  • Client Work / Membership Management

  • Digital Product / Print Creation

  • Free Resources / Blog Curation

  • Monthly Newsletter

  • Social Media Posting

#3 Block off time in your calendar to complete each priority from most important to least important. Even if that means completing your lowest priority on a monthly basis if need be

This is truly dependent on how much free time you have after your commitments are accounted for. Start by blocking off time for the work that makes you money- this is product creation, service curation and refining, offering preparation, and time for the "how" (which is typically marketing efforts). Then, as time allows, fill in the rest of your free time (that you are willing to work on your business of course) with the rest of your priorities.

Again, if you find that you don't have time for social media posting, try accounting for certain things like this on the weekends or on a monthly basis if they really are that important to you to maintain. A little bonus tip with this is: please don't time-block yourself to oblivion where you feel you have no life. This is not the goal, it never was the goal, and it should never be how you engage with your business efforts. All of this is meant to be fun, and rewarding work for yourself- so do your best to make it as enjoyable as possible for you.

#4 Create these three note types in your phone: "Insights", "To-Do", and "Services/Product". Keep them pinned and accessible for the moments you get inspired and want to remember something.

Now THIS! This has been truly a life-saver tactic. I am someone who will get insanely valuable insights about my businesses in the shower, while driving, or while exercising and it's literally the WORST when you can't remember what it was afterwards, or you simply have no way of writing it down because you're not at your desk or in your office.

If you have an iPhone, you will be able to do exactly this- pin each of these 3 main note types in your Notes app. If you have an Android, I'm sure there is something similar to a note app on your phone that you can easily pull up at anytime. These note types are what I have found to be the most valuable to have accessible to me at any given moment and it's because they hit on these three processes: inspiration (insights), logistics (to-do), and outward representation (service/product). I believe these 3 focus points will keep you thriving (and organized) as a business.
